San Francisco-based Top Agent Network (TAN) has started a little revolution of its own by bringing the power of social media technology to the residential real estate space. With the company's rapidly growing influence, real estate agents, financial institutions, service providers and other industry players are taking note.

TAN is a "business network" designed to transform the way top agents conduct their business in local chapters around the country. The network provides a platform where high producing agents connect with one another in diverse ways throughout the life-cycle of a home sale — starting before a listing is posted on the local Multiple Listing Service (MLS) and continuing to closing and beyond. Active registered members of Top Agent Network currently sell $25 billion in home sales annually.

Top Agent Network's online platform was launched in San Francisco in 2009 with a total of 200 members in three regional chapters (Marin, San Francisco and San Mateo counties). TAN's roster now includes agents in 30 chapters from coast to coast, with current coverage extending to the metropolitan areas of the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Scottsdale and Washington, D.C. New chapters are being added regularly, each bringing with it the top producers in the affected markets across the country.

According to its members, Top Agent Network is a key component of their success.

"Top Agent Network is the #1 tool I discuss with prospective clients," says Tracy McLaughlin, the highest producing agent in Marin. "Frankly, the only tool I consider more vital to home sales than Top Agent Network is the MLS itself."

TAN was founded on the real estate experience of CEO David Faudman, who for 15 years was a top producer in northern California. Though Top Agent Network is national in its reach, the focus of each TAN chapter is strictly local, with national expansion achieved only on a chapter-by-chapter basis. Member posts are restricted to information not available on the MLS such as: Pre- and Non-MLS Listings, Buyer Needs, Service Provider Recommendations and Industry Discussion.

"Top producing real estate agents are among the busiest and hardest to reach professionals out there," said Mr. Faudman. "We have managed to attract those agents by creating a highly trusted, no-nonsense exchange that gives agents in local chapters valuable tools to distinguish themselves to their clients."
