ABC Animal Training Expands Its Innovative, Experiential Learning Program With Marine Mammal Behavior Workshop Launching in Early 2015

CANCUN, Mexico, May 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — ABC Animal Training (http://www.abcanimaltraining.com/), a leader in hands-on marine mammal training, continues to offer amazing opportunities to forge meaningful human-animal connections. Next year, a workshop program based near Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, will give students a far-reaching and diverse experience with both land and sea mammals. The Marine Mammal Behavior and Field Interpretation Workshop runs from February 16 to 20.

Experience Human-Nature Connections

"True environmental awareness begins with education," explains Shelley Wood, owner of ABC Training Systems. "After more than 20 years of teaching people how to work with and appreciate marine mammals, I've seen up close the importance of hands-on, practical learning."

The Marine Mammal Behavior and Field Interpretation Workshop is intended for those wanting to learn more about whales, dolphins and sea lions. The workshop also emphasizes the finer points of wildlife interpretation. All observations of whale and sea lions in the wild are conducted from boats designed and certified specifically for the task.

While prior workshops have been staged at Dolphin Discovery in the Mexican Caribbean, the upcoming workshop will instead take students and instructors to Mexico's more untamed Pacific coast. Dolphin Discovery Los Cabos is just 25 minutes from Cabo San Lucas and enjoys the endlessly pleasant weather of Baja California. Workshop participants will have free time to explore the historic city and its environs.

The new workshop isn't only about marine mammals. Students will also have the opportunity to interact with camels during Camel Quest at Wild Canyon Park. As students ride their camels through the "El Tule" oasis, they'll learn about the surprising intelligence and personality of these deceptively nimble domesticated land mammals.

As with all of ABC Animal Training's workshops and programs, the Marine Mammal Behavior and Field Interpretation Workshop has been developed by professional environmental educators, who also oversee all aspects of instruction. Networking with others starting their career or adding to their skill set is yet another meaningful benefit of these respected workshops.

ABC Animal Training believes in working together with animals in such a way to ensure their best possible quality of life. Training is therefore a significant and powerful experience for both human and animal participants. In this way, ABC Animal Training hopes to instill a deeper understanding of how humans have a unique responsibility to serve as leaders in conservation, whether directly through animal training or indirectly through eco-tourism.
