American Fertility Association Bids Farewell to Founding Executive Director

Names Acting Executive Director and Launches National Replacement Search

NEW YORK, Feb. 13, 2008 — The American Fertility Association announced today the departure of its Founding Executive Director, Pamela Madsen, who resigned after many years of service to pursue opportunities in the private sector in reproductive medicine.

"We are very grateful to Pam for her many years of vision and leadership," said AFA Co-Chair Patricia Mendell. "Our organization would not be the leading patient organization in the field of family building were it not for Pam."

As the Founding Executive Director, Ms. Madsen's vision was to support people trying to conceive; transform the lives of individuals and couples faced with reproductive difficulties; and raise awareness around sexual and reproductive health and wellness. Ms. Madsen is a member of the National Counsel of State Legislators Genetic Technologies Project's Legislative Task Force on Human Genetic Technologies, The International Consumer Support for Infertility (iCSi) and a Committee Member of the National Coalition for Oversight of Assisted Reproductive Technologies (NCOART).

"The AFA is ready to grow in new directions, just as I am. I will continue to support, love and watch those changes as they unfold," said Madsen. "I have a great belief in the life, spirit and purpose of The AFA. I will always lend my support to its health and growth – even if from a distance."

The AFA will be conducting a national search to replace the executive director position and has named Chief Operating Officer Ken Mosesian as Acting Executive Director in the interim.

"Pam's vision laid a strong foundation for the AFA and the staff, some of whom started with Pam in the early days of the organization, and the AFA is committed to continuing that legacy," said Co-Chair Stuart Miller. "We wish Pam all the best in her future endeavors and thank her for setting the organization on such a strong path for the future."

The AFA is a national, non-profit organization serving the United States through its national office in New York City, and is a leader in providing men and women, health care professionals, public officials and the media, both nationally and internationally, with information about infertility treatments, reproductive and sexual health and family building options including adoption and third-party solutions.
