American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) Announces 2012-2013 Board of Directors

CHERRY HILL, N.J., May 16, 2012 — The American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) is pleased to introduce its 2012-2013 Board of Directors, including President Susan Carter, RN, BSN, CPAN, CAPA, PHN, and Vice President/President-Elect Twilla Shrout, BSN, MBA, RN, CPAN, CAPA.

Prior to the presidency, Ms. Carter served ASPAN in a number of capacities, including Treasurer, Region 1 Director (Western United States), Coordinator of the 2007 National Conference Committee, and on various other committees, including Standards and Guidelines, Publications, Strategic Planning, Computers and Information Technology, and as Chair of the Membership and Marketing and Governmental Affairs Committees.

Susan is also a nurse with the University of California (San Diego), where she has worked since 1993, initially in perianesthesia care at the Medical Center and more recently in the Student Health Center, working in urgent care. Perianesthesia clinical practice is a key focus for Susan, and she maintains her certification credentials and clinical practice experience by remaining contracted with several acute care institutions as per diem for phase I and phase II PACU.

She holds a bachelor's degree in nursing from California State University (Dominguez Hills), where she graduated cum laude, as well as an array of nursing certifications. She and her family reside in Oceanside.

Vice President Twilla Shrout will also serve a one-year term, after which she will assume the office of President, as the Society's bylaws stipulate. She looks forward to working with the Board to ensure that ASPAN continues to advance its mission and vision. Ms. Shrout is a staff nurse at Harry S. Truman Veterans Memorial Hospital (Columbia, Missouri) and holds a BSN from the University of Central Missouri and an MBA from William Woods University. She and her family reside in Bunceton, Missouri.
