AmericanFlags.com Urges Consumers to Buy American-Made Flags this Flag Day

HOLBROOK, N.Y., June 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — As our nation celebrates Flag Day and other upcoming patriotic holidays, AmericanFlags.com is urging consumers to display high quality US flags that are made in America and labeled as such. That's because about $4 million worth of flags are imported annually into the US and the vast majority – about ninety-four percent – are coming from China. Most are not labeled as such and are made with inferior materials, threads and dyes that fade, weather and tear quickly.

"If anything should be made in America, it's the American flag," said AmericanFlags.com President/CEO Dr. Jeffrey Reynolds, "and consumers should look for that 'Made in USA' label before making a purchase." Federal law requires country of origin labeling on most flags and in 2014, federal lawmakers passed legislation allowing the U.S. Department of Defense to buy only American-made flags for our nation's armed forces. Several states, including Florida, have imposed flag-buying guidelines for their government agencies and such legislation is pending in about a dozen other states, including New York.

"While nothing could compare to the demand for American flags we saw in the days, weeks and months following 9/11," says Dr. Reynolds, "our company has seen a steady increase in flag sales and so far this year, demand is up more than 20 percent, probably due to the Presidential campaigns."

Foreign-made flags are regularly sold – often without labels – in convenience stores, on Ebay and Amazon and via high-volume wholesale websites that boast low prices. According to Dr. Reynolds: "A mass-produced US flag made in China may be cheaper because it's made of flimsy, substandard materials in substandard, exploitative conditions, whereas flags made here in America are generally made from top-quality domestic materials, are double sewn for extra durability, carefully inspected and packed with pride by folks who understand and appreciate our flag's rich history." A better-made US flag looks better, lasts longer and buying one that's been made here at home supports our national economy and the families of those who sew, pack and distribute Old Glory.

AmericanFlags.com is the nation's largest retailer of American flags and urges residents to fly the flag on national holidays like Memorial Day, Flag Day and Independence Day, but also believes that our nation's symbol of freedom should be displayed everyday at America's homes, businesses and at events.  The New York-based company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Precision Marketing Solutions, Inc. and supplies American flags to the US Armed Forces, sports teams, Fortune 500 companies, retail stores and franchises and hundreds of thousands of schools, nonprofits, civic organizations and patriotic families nationwide.
