Quad core throughput is needed for military robots with heavy computational workloads
PORTLAND, Ore., March 2, 2011 — APlus Mobile, Inc. (http://www.aplusmobile.com) has been granted its second Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with SPAWAR, the R & D division of the Navy. The Q40, APlus Mobile's new sealed server, will be incorporated into a next generation robotic platform being developed by SPAWAR for all branches of the military.
Utilizing Intel's Core 2 Quad processors and chipsets, the Q40 sealed server delivers the massive computing power necessary to satisfy the highly complex mission tasks that today's robots and autonomous vehicles perform to protect soldiers, such as IED targeting and neutralization.
The Q40 is shock mounted in a ventless, compact aluminum case, which prevents ingestion of solid or liquid contaminants, the leading cause of field deployed computer failures. Additionally, a patented thermal design prevents the high-powered processor from overheating and possible thermal failure. Powered by the raw 12-29 VDC bus, the Q40's unique power management system eliminates the need for external converters or adaptors, reducing valuable footprint and cost.
