HOUSTON, April 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Attorney Derek Merman of The Merman Law Firm located in Houston, Texas is now assisting victims regarding the recently announced Medprep Consulting, Inc. voluntary recall. All products compounded at Medprep's Tinton Falls, New Jersey facility are being recalled because intravenous administration of a contaminated product can cause fatal infections. If you or a loved one has been treated with a Medprep Consulting product, choose a lawyer with experience in cases involving drug recalls.

Medprep Consulting, Inc. is a specialty compounding pharmacy dealing in sterile parenterals — drugs administered by intravenous, intramuscular, or subcutaneous injection. Medprep's products include items such as prefilled syringes, pain management medications, operating room medication, anesthesia, oncology medications, and dialysis drugs. The contaminated product being recalled is Magnesium Sulfate, specifically, Magnesium Sulfate 2gm in Dextrose 5% in water, 50mL for injection intravenous solution.  Magnesium sulfate is a widely used IV component, which explains why so many products are included in this recall.

On March 20, 2013, Medprep Consulting, Inc. issued a voluntary nationwide recall of all lots of all products compounded at its New Jersey facility. On the same day, the FDA issued a press release to inform hospital and physician consumers about the voluntary recall. The immediate nationwide recall of all lots was necessary; intravenous administration could result in fatalities.  Medprep Consulting, Inc. was notified of the contamination by a Connecticut hospital that observed the particulate contaminates in lots that were distinctly compounded for, and dispersed to, the Connecticut hospital.

Without question, Medprep's sterility assurance has been compromised. To date, only one product was discovered to contain particulate contaminants that were confirmed to be mold. A known total of five (5) intravenous bags have been found to be contaminated. At this time, no fatalities or injuries have been reported.

The recall applies to products distributed to hospitals, physicians' offices, and medical clinics thru March 17, 2013. Hospital pharmacies, physician's office practices and clinics have been informed via fax, e-mail, telephone and regular mail, and have been instructed to remove all lots of the products and return them to Medprep. The following products were distributed directly to hospitals and pharmacies located in New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Delaware: plastic infusion bags, plastic infusion devices, plastic syringes, and glass vials.  Additionally, plastic syringes were distributed nationwide to physicians' offices and clinics. The product was not dispensed to patients via retail pharmacies for self-administration or for professional administration for patients receiving home-care.

Derek Merman at The Merman Law Firm is currently accepting client inquiries nationally for people have suffered a serious infection or have had a family member suffer a fatality due to intravenous mold contamination. Victims are encouraged to contact the firm for a free recall lawsuit review.
