New Audio Device Introduced at Infocomm Lets Users Schedule Auto-Playback a Year in Advance – Without a Computer

BOSTON, June 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Combining the convenience of personal music players like the iPod™ and the power of computer-based audio scheduling systems, Technomad LLC introduces the Schedulon 4 – a powerful but simple-to-use device that gives users instant access to needed sounds, and the ability to schedule audio playback as far as a year in the future. The device debuts at the Infocomm trade show this week in Las Vegas (June 18-20, booth C11213).

Ideal for retail, schools, airports, corporate, and entertainment applications, the Schedulon plays audio to guide activities, promote products, provide background music, or make announcements on an automatic timetable – while giving an operator instant override if needed.

The Schedulon handles tasks as diverse as playing church bells, creating ambience at resort pools, pumping up the crowd with pre-show music before live concerts, signaling the start and end of classes at schools, making security announcements at airports, and more.

In 2008 Technomad introduced the first version of the Schedulon – a one-rackspace, MP3-only device with basic scheduling and playback. This week Technomad introduces Schedulon version 4.0 at the Infocomm trade show in Las Vegas (Jun 18-20 Booth C11213), and while it's still a slender one-rackspace device, a host of new features enhance this ever more powerful product.

The new Schedulon plays and records the patent-free Ogg Vorbis audio format – and plays lossless FLAC and WAV files too. The unit also plays MP3 audio. The device plays all audio formats on-the-fly, so users can mix and match files as needed.

Schedulon 4 also provides fast remote upload of audio over the Internet, allowing the operator to pick songs and add them to the Schedulon's on-board library using any standard web-browser. In fact, every aspect of the Schedulon can be configured using a browser – no special software is required. "We've strived for a user experience that's effortless and powerful," says Technomad Vice President Rodger von Kries, "so our customers can quickly connect to the Schedulon using their favorite browser and upload new audio, or adjust a playback schedule without special software or plug-ins."

Enhancements include a military-grade Real Time Clock that drifts less than a minute per year (typical RTCs drift several minutes per month), extended filenames, faster web refresh, and faster upload. The Schedulon now uses a SD drive instead of a USB drive, and offers storage up to 128 Gigabytes.

The Schedulon can function as the audio source for a single PA system (like a CD player or iPod), or it can feed audio to large–scale paging systems in airports or retail spaces. Scheduling can be as straightforward or complex as desired.
