Autographed Brett Favre Green Bay Packers Uniform Worn When He Broke NFL All-Time Touchdown Record Up for Bid in Dec. 11 Auction

WESTHAMPTON, N.Y., Dec. 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — The complete, game-used and autographed road uniform Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre wore when he broke the NFL's all-time touchdown record is creating some serious buzz in a sports memorabilia auction that closes for bidding on December 11th.

"This uniform represents the crowning achievement of a legendary athlete's career," said Richard E. Russek, president of Grey Flannel Auctions, the company handling its sale. "Brett Favre wore this uniform on September 30th, 2007 in a game against the Minnesota Vikings. A touchdown he threw in that game put Favre in the history books as the NFL's all-time leader in passing touchdowns, a distinction that, until that day, belonged to Dan Marino."

Superlatives flow easily in describing Packers legend Brett Favre. Super Bowl XXXI champion and five-time NFC Player of the Year, Favre was voted to the NFL's 1990 All-Decade Team. After becoming the Packers' quarterback in the fourth game of the 1992 season, Favre started in an NFL-record-setting 287 consecutive games.

Game-worn items associated with milestones in Favre's career are automatically historical, said Russek. "He's a living legend, and that legend only continues to grow."

The monumentally important Favre uniform to be auctioned is even more desirable because it is clearly hand-signed on the back of the jersey and front of the pants. Below Favre's signature on the jersey is his player number "4" and the words "NFL RECORD 421 TDS GAME USED 9/30/07 PACK 23 VIKES 14." The pants are signed "Brett Favre 4 Game Used 9/30/07."

The jersey and pants are accompanied by the other components of the uniform worn in the 9/30/07 game: quarterback flak jacket signed by Favre, two pairs of socks, a pair of calf sleeves, two wristbands and Favre's quarterback towel. The uniform, which is photo-matched and video-matched, is being auctioned as a group lot together with a DVD of the game in which the record was set, and letters of authenticity. Currently, the leading bid on the uniform is $8,860. Favre's signed cleats from the record-breaking game are also available as a separate lot.

Also featured in the auction are the very sneakers Michael Jordan wore during one of the most memorable performances in NBA Finals history. During Game 5 of the 1997 Finals, known in basketball lore as the "Flu Game," Jordan fought off a 103-degree fever to chalk up 38 points, grab seven rebounds, dish five assists and hit a game-sealing 3-pointer in his 44th minute of play. Together, these accomplishments created a chapter of its own in the career of the greatest basketball player of all time. As of press time, the leading bid on Jordan's Flu Game sneakers was $59,628, with more than 75,000 hits recorded for the online-catalog listing.
