Smart Tweezers and LCR-Reader have become popular devices for testing and troubleshooting Surface Mount Technology since the Smart Tweezers debut in the early 2000's, and the LCR-Reader has become a well-received device among non-professionals since it's released in 2013.

The combination of a set of tweezers and an LCR-meter in a lightweight device saves time and effort while testing and troubleshooting SMT. Unlike conventional testers that require set-up between components and long wire leads that require both hands, LCR-Reader and Smart Tweezers streamline the process. By grasping a component between the gold-plated tweezers, the device will automatically determine the type of component and best test range before measuring for L, C, R and ESR. All measurement values, including any secondary values like ESR, the component type and test parameters are instantly displayed on the OLED display. New options for the tweezer probes are available such as bent and precision gold-plated tips.

Siborg will also offer a new Smart LED Tester Tweezers, the device that allows testing of LED diodes as well as to be used as a Digital Tweezer Tester when connected to a multimeter with the included cable.

"Smart Tweezers and LCR-Reader offer users a time-saving alternative to conventional testers. They have high accuracy and instantaneous results with no-set up. Sorting loose and unidentifiable components is as easy as holding the component between the tweezers' tips, taking the guesswork out of working with SMT," says Michael Obrecht, the Director at Siborg.

The newest model in the Smart Tweezers line is the LCR-Reader; designed for people using it as an indicator; with a lower price and less features. The main goal while designing this device was an affordable alternative to Smart Tweezers. The LCR-Reader retails for around $200 USD; this price point was achievable by omitting features that are found on Smart Tweezers, including the offset subtraction, diode and continuity testing and component sorting. The LCR-Reader offers users a high accuracy varying between 0.5% and 1% as per Navair Technologies' most recent evaluations of the device. It also does a better job than Smart Tweezers on larger capacitances above 1 mF.

Features on LCR-Reader:
-Automatic LCR and ESR evaluations
-Automatic best range selection
-0.5/1% basic accuracy
-1 oz. weight

The Smart Tweezers models are the professional models. The current model, ST-5S, offers users a 0.2% basic accuracy, variable tolerances, and more customization for specific measurements. Smart Tweezers are invaluable for any work from manufacturing and assembly lines to repair and maintaining electronics.

ST-5S features include:
-Automatic LCR and ESR measurements
-0.2% basic accuracy
-Automatic best test range selection
-Component sorting with 1%, 5%, 10% and 20% tolerances
-Semi-automatic offset subtraction
-Continuity and diode testing
-Customization options for measurements
-1 oz. weight

Both devices are powered by a Li-Ion battery, rechargeable via micro-USB. Siborg offers replacement parts for all devices, including tips, screens, cases, etc. Recently they have added a new bent-tip to the catalogue; the bent tips are more ergonomic than the pre-installed straight tips. A catalog of spare parts for all old and new models of Smart Tweezers are available at our site "Smart Tweezers LCR-meter: the History of Evolution."
