Two Books From Award-Winning Author Win Several Awards at The Paris, San Francisco and Green Book Festivals

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., May 18, 2012 — It's always good to hear that your new book is about to debut with some good reviews and acclamations. The new book called Do NOT Invent Buggy Whips by award-winning author Ken Thurber has done just that with the announcement that it was runner-up at the 2012 Green Book Festival in the Business Category. In the same week, Do NOT Invent was notified that it was runner-up in two categories: Business and How-to at the 2012 San Francisco Book festival. It also captured Honorable Mention in the How-to category at the 2012 Paris book festival.

The official launch of Do NOT Invent Buggy Whips is slated for May 22. The book's main theme of product reinvention and personal reinvention has resonated with reviewers and readers who have seen the early release of the book. According to the author, Ken Thurber, Do NOT Invent had its genesis in unresolved questions and comments from his first book — Big Wave Surfing: Extreme Technology Development, Management, Marketing and Investing.

According to Thurber, "I found that my first book raised many questions, chief among them was – how do people innovate and how do you define innovation." According to the book, it's about reinvention and understanding product positioning. Its interesting case studies of real world products like the Ford Mustang, the Segway and the iPod details why some products get it right while others don't quite measure up.

Big Wave Surfing Book Takes Two More Honors

Big Wave Surfing, Dr. Thurber's first non-fiction business book, was also recognized at the same San Francisco book festival with a first place win in the technology category. The book was also was runner up in the How-to category at the Paris book festival.

These new announcements make Big Wave Surfing one of the top business books of 2011-2012. With nine awards in 2011, and seven already in 2012, it continues to remain popular with both reviewers and readers.

According to the author, Dr. Thurber, "I wrote Big Wave Surfing as an analogy to show how disruption causes big waves to form and that these disruptions will have far-reaching economic, political and social effects.

"As the book points out, it's critical to be able to spot these big waves forming. We talk about them from a technological perspective, but it's clear that technology is rapidly altering our business, social and political landscape."

Thurber continues, "We live in interesting times. Our true measure will be how well we adapt not only to the speed of change, but the results of these changes. I believe my book will help people begin to understand and deal with these changes. I have spent a lifetime in the computer business, a business that can change radically every 12-18 months, sometimes sooner. We are talking about disruption, and often extreme techniques are needed to deal with this disruption."

Thurber says like the physical surfers who ride the big waves at a beach like Mavericks, these new concepts won't "always be pretty and in fact it may be down-right dangerous. There will be winners. There will be wipeouts and losers. But if we don't boldly embrace the next wave, the innovation economy, then profound structural changes will occur in American society."
