Burleson LLP Partner Andrea Johnson to Speak at 2013 Gulf Coast Symposium on Human Resources Issues

HOUSTON, May 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Andrea "A.J." Johnson, a partner with the energy law firm of Burleson LLP in Houston, will speak at the 2013 Gulf Coast Symposium on Human Resources Issues, which will be held May 15 and 16 at Reliant Center in Houston.

Johnson's presentation is titled "Employment Law and the Energy Industry: A Match Made in Heaven?" The session is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, and will cover three key areas that impact oil and gas companies: overtime payments among contractors and employees; hiring fundamentals; and related issues that include non-competition and confidentiality concerns.

"In today's booming energy sector, businesses are facing a growing number of questions concerning critical employment issues, particularly when it comes to compensation, recruitment, and hiring practices," explained Johnson, who has worked in employment and commercial litigation for nearly three decades.

"My goal in this presentation is to give human resources professionals the practical answers they need to identify and effectively manage and mitigate the risks involved in building a strong workforce today, and to provide them the tools they need to avoid litigation problems altogether in the future."

Johnson concentrates her practice in the areas of employment, general commercial, and product liability law. She has represented clients both in and out of Texas – at trial, in arbitration and mediation, and before state and federal appeals courts – and has worked with clients on every aspect of employment-related issues, from discrimination/retaliation controversies to wage and hour disputes to non-competition questions.

She is also a highly regarded speaker and writer, and has been named a Texas Super Lawyer in employment law for six consecutive years.

The Gulf Coast Symposium on Human Resources Issues is one of the largest conferences of its kind in the nation, attracting more than 1,400 human resources professionals each year. The event offers attendees more than 100 concurrent sessions, bringing together thought leaders, business strategists, and professionals to share best practices and concepts and stay current on tools and techniques impacting the human resources profession.
