Cambridge Wealth Counsel Helps the Truly Needy During Holiday Season

ATLANTA, Dec. 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Sending holiday cards and gifts to clients might be standard practice for many companies at this time of year. But Cambridge Wealth Counsel (CWC), an SEC Registered Firm, is committed to helping the truly needy with their holiday budget.

"We used to send thousands of dollars of cards and candies to our clients. They said, 'You help us with our financial goals, but you are not helping us with our weight loss goals,'" said Robert Hockett, CFP and President of Cambridge Wealth Counsel. "We decided to put that money to good use by helping people in Atlanta and supporting worthwhile charities that we have vetted."

"We at Cambridge believe that we should do what we can to help others in a meaningful way. For many years we have helped those who need a hand and who need to know someone in the world cares," he said.

For the past four years, the employees of CWC – as well as many of their clients and their children and grandchildren – host a party to wrap gifts for the needy. The Fourth Annual Client Gift Wrap Party was held last Friday.

This year, 10 families representing 66 family members supported by All About Developmental Disabilities (AADD) and Chris Kids received gifts.

Gifts ranged from coats and tennis shoes to items most people take for granted.

"One boy, the child of parents who have developmental disabilities, cooks for his entire family. Last year, he asked for one pot so he could cook two food items at the same time instead of having to cook one item after the other. We gave him an entire set of cookware," he said.

Another boy asked for a bowl – because he and his brother shared one bowl. He had to wait for his brother to finish eating before he could eat.

"These are stories that pull at your heartstrings," he said. "These people live at rock bottom because of disabilities. They have no place else to go."

Taking care of 10 families is a big undertaking. CWC staffers find out what the families need and do all the shopping. We pay for the gifts and the gift wrap. But the work is fun. The Varsity was hired to cater the affair and everyone has a good time.

"Some of our clients bring gifts as well. They also bring their kids and grandkids so they can help teach them the value of giving," said Hockett.

The holiday gifts are only a small part of the charitable work CWC does throughout the year. The company supports charitable projects sponsored by Rotary International, The Junior League, Heifer International, The Perpetual Education Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, The Greater Atlanta Jewish Federation as well as several smaller charities and groups.
