Canada's 'Physician's Office of the Future' to Rely on KATSI's MedAZ EHR Solution

KATSI Canada Is One of Six Vendors in a Unique Initiative to Demonstrate Interoperability of Standards-Based Electronic Health Record Solutions

PLAINSBORO, N.J. and TORONTO, May 3, 2006 — Koni Ameri Tech Services, Inc. (KATSI) today announced that its subsidiary, KATSI Canada, has successfully integrated MedAZ, an electronic health record (EHR) solution, as a component of the eHealth Collaboratory's demonstration of an EHR for the "Physician's Office of the Future." The eHealth Collaboratory is a joint initiative of Canada Health Infoway and the Centre for Global eHealth Innovation, working with vendors and purchasers to facilitate the development and assessment of usable, interoperable EHR solutions based on pan-Canadian and internationally recognized standards. KATSI is one of six companies selected to participate in the initial operational phase of eHealth Collaboratory's standards-based interoperability project.

KATSI's MedAZ software performs five functions for the Collaboratory's EHR demonstration platform: It queries the client registry for patient demographic information; it queries the client registry for allergy information; it updates the client registry with patient demographic changes; it receives results of mental-status exams from other systems; and it communicates patient-discharge summaries or patient charts to the hospital system.

"MedAZ basically helps clinics run more efficiently, which is largely the intent of the Collaboratory's Physicians Office of the Future demonstration, so we're delighted to have been a part of the initiative," said Vasu Iyengar of KATSI. "The Collaboratory, with the involvement of companies like KATSI, will truly improve hospital-physician relations and decision-making throughout entire health systems by giving professionals one standardized method to find critical patient information."

MedAZ is a CCOW-compliant, secure, reliable, multi-lingual software that makes appointment scheduling, EMR, billing, and collections faster and easier for health care professionals. MedAZ exceeds HIPAA security requirements and eases the burden of data management on health care professionals by allowing them to operate one centralized software system.

KATSI, which is primarily focused on providing IT services and consulting that help clients gain a competitive advantage, is often regarded as a thought leader in the field of health care security. KATSI, for instance, has two patents pending that provide a way for databases to exchange information without using central data stores. Central data stores are the most common form of information storage and are often vulnerable to hackers and widespread security breaches.

Combined with several patent-pending processes, MedAZ as a software tool is encapsulated with a suite of services to provide coding, billing and denial management as a Revenue Cycle Management offering. The eHealth Collaboratory will feature a demonstration of the proof-of-concept standards-based interoperable EHR solution, including MedAZ's integrated functionality, developed through the collaborative efforts of six participating vendors at its official launch in May at Toronto General Hospital.

KATSI targets the health care, financial services and human resources markets. The company's clients include Kroger Co., Caterpillar Corporation, Holiday Inn, Cincinnati Gas & Electric, IBM Corporation and Lucent Technologies.
