MEXICO CITY, June 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — During Arizona Governor Doug Ducey's visit to Mexico City, the Carlos Slim Foundation presented its latest initiative, Acceso Latino: a free website entirely in Spanish that offers educational tools, English-language learning resources, online job training and more.

The purpose of Governor Ducey's visit to Mexico City was to initiate a new dialogue centered on the growth of trade and new development opportunities between Mexico and the state of Arizona.
Elizabeth Holmes, founder and CEO of Theranos, Dr. Sergio Alcocer, Mexican Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs for North America, Dr. Ann Weaver, President of the University of Arizona, Eduardo Medina Mora, Mexico's Supreme Court Justice, Rodrigo Lopez, former major league baseball player, and Carlos Slim Helu, founder of the Carlos Slim Foundation, were among some of the esteemed individuals present. At the gathering, Dr. Roberto Tapia Conyer, Executive Director of the Carlos Slim Foundation, presented the Foundation's latest initiative, Acceso Latino.
AccesoLatino.org was officially launched in August 2014 by the Carlos Slim Foundation in an effort to improve the quality of life of individuals of the U.S. Latino community by providing information, tools and resources that are easily accessible, free, and entirely in Spanish. The site offers diverse content in the areas of education, job training, healthcare, citizenship, and more.
Job training courses can be found through Capacitate para el empleo (Get Ready for Work). With more than 190,000 users already, the platform offers more than 35 courses for professions in the areas of construction, customer service, public transportation, information technology, food and beverage service, and textiles, among others.
Along with job training, the site also contains educational tools that range from English-language learning and preparation for the High School equivalency exam (GED, Hi-SET, TASC), to Khan Academy courses in Spanish for learning levels K-12 and up.
AccesoLatino.org includes financial literacy tools, such as easy-to-follow guides to saving money, paying and filing taxes, and how the credit system in the United States works. One can also find preparation materials for the Citizenship Exam and complete, up-to-date information on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), as well as information on how to obtain a driver's license.
Another strategic initiative of the Foundation that is currently growing in the state of Arizona is ASUME, a program that centers upon the creation of strong, united families. The late Soumaya Domit de Slim created ASUME in 1980. Today, ASUME has presence in 14 countries and is directed by Vanessa Slim.
By means of fruitful meetings such as this, the Carlos Slim Foundation hopes to deliver these useful resources to the U.S. Latino community, as well as establish new partnerships that reinforce the work that the Foundation is doing to further advance the future of Latinos residing in the United States.
