Chicago Artist Lyssen Sparks Change with New iTunes Single, "Battle of Lost Souls Part II"

CHICAGO, Sept. 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Poet/rapper Lyssen is quickly gaining attention and generating conversations due to her newly released iTunes single. As critics expose many hip-hop artists for ignoring the downfall of inner city communities, the question still remains, what do we do next?

Lyssen (pronounced listen) is a Chicago rapper, but a poet at heart, who uses her music to influence change through self-awareness. "There's nothing wrong with having nice things…there's no such thing made from material that can build self-esteem," says Lyssen in hernewly released iTunes single appropriately titled, Battle of Lost Souls Part II (https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/battle-lost-souls-pt.-2.-single/id695757401).

The Hip-Hop Industry, while at its most profitable state, struggles to balance both substance and entertainment. In 2013, it is more common to find a new artist that fits the trend than it is to find a new artist that stands apart. Inspired by the violent decay of her hometown Chicago, Lyssen breaks the common artist mold with various combinations of poetry and rap while motivating the lost souls to notice the world around them and consciously depict how they fit into it. "My goal is to allow people to not only enjoy my art, but also find the art within themselves and display it," explains Lyssen.

Battle of Lost Souls Part II doesn't call people out on bad judgments or ask them why they make those decisions, but instead paints an alternate path of choice. The delivery and wordplay of her lyrics keeps listeners engaged and stimulated, while the music entertains as a theatrical rendition of soul.

"Some of you will hear this and feel a sensation, and to others, I'm just a figment of your imagination" – Lyssen
