Chicago-area Amateur Basketball League Premiere Hoops Partnering With Shiloh Baptist Church to Create Multi-purpose Recreation Outreach Center

PLAINFIELD, Ill., April 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — William Leach, president of Premiere Hoops (http://www.premierehoops.net/), is committed to breaking down the barriers to health equity within his community. That's the vision behind the Recreation Outreach Center (ROC), a new facility that will host a range of needful services. Once open, the center will offer basketball and volleyball, recreation programs, early education programs, and much more.

Shiloh Baptist Church (http://www.shilohmbclockport.org/) in Lockport is generously providing space for the ROC. Shiloh's Reverend Richard House endorsed the deal, noting that the new church was designed with this function in mind. "We were waiting for the right situation to present itself. This partnership will be a big benefit to the community."

What's needed now, according to Leach and his partners, is a few good volunteers and monetary support to help move the vision forward. Anyone interested in learning more or contributing to this effort can do so via RocketHub: http://www.rockethub.com/projects/42336-visions-made-of-roc#description-tab. A portion of the funds raised will go toward hiring the consultant company that helped Bo Jackson plan his sports dome in near by Lemont.

"The joint venture between Shiloh Baptist and Premiere Hoops will allow us to offer unique programs that will encourage the community to live a more active lifestyle," remarked Leach. "The Recreation Outreach Center will be an oasis in the desert for a underserved community. African Americans represent just 13% of the population but experience disproportionate rates of heart disease, cancer, obesity, and other chronic, usually preventable conditions. We're committed to turning those numbers around."

As one of the most popular and competitive recreational leagues in Chicago, Premiere Hoops is about so much more than basketball. Sports can be a forum to teach players valuable lessons that can help them win in the game of life. Everyone who competes in our fantasy league, for example, benefits from the regular exercise, which can prevent so many diseases like diabetes or high blood pressure. The ROC will take the values-conscious mission of Premiere Hoops and Shiloh Baptist Church to the next level.

Leach concluded: "Health inequality is real, but it can be overcome. Government can't be depended on for everything, so that's why Premiere Hoops and Shiloh Baptist Church are taking a proactive, aggressive approach to the problem in the form of the Recreation Outreach Center."
