Comedian Mark Lundholm is Giving Away 1000 Copies of 'Recovery: The Board Game' to Help Those Suffering from Addiction

Lundholm, an addict 26 years in recovery, has created recovery-focused board games to prevent relapses and aid addicts in the road to sobriety. The game (valued at $25) will be given away for free through RecoveryBookstore.com.

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Nov. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — For addicts, maintaining sobriety is tough. Shame about the addiction and its consequences is a major stumbling block. Comedian Mark Lundholm, an addict with 26 years in recovery, has created a "shortcut" to help addicts and families maintain their recovery. His Recovery Board Game is a fun way to take a lighthearted and yet healing look at the issues addicts face. For the month of November, Mark is giving 1000 of these games away, for free, to anyone in need.

Why do this? Mark believes that gratitude – part of the 12th step of Alcoholics Anonymous – is crucial to sobriety. As he says in one of his "shortcuts," "Gratitude doesn't relapse." So as a show of gratitude and giving back, Mark donated a free Recovery Board Game to each attendee at the recent Sacramento live filming of his new DVD series, Recovery Humor 101. Mark also donated many tickets to the event to locals in need. Through humor, stories, and exercises, Recovery Humor 101, a standup comedy-style presentation, helps addicts and families to better understand addiction and maintain sobriety. The board game further supports these goals.

Those who play the game experience a humorous, "share-and-stare," humbling and happy healing process. One attendee who used the game for his group commented: "I was really surprised. We laughed continuously, but we also gained new insights into our issues. It's going to be a regular activity now." The Recovery Board Game is rooted in yet another of Mark's shortcuts: "If we can laugh about it, then we can talk about it." The game's impact is often powerful and long-lasting.

With such positive feedback, Mark decided to do more. This month, he's partnering with RecoveryBookstore.com to donate a free copy of the Recovery Board Game, (normally $25), to the first thousand individuals or organizations who request one. Groups needing more than one game can request multiple copies. The game can be ordered online at recoverybookstore.com or by phone at 855-REC-BOOK.  About the giveaway, Mark said, "I love hearing from people who have played the game. Laughing at what we're most afraid of is one of the best ways to 'do it 'till you're through it.'"

Mark stays busy with 200+ live shows and workshops in rehab centers, prisons, schools, and other venues in the US and internationally. In the rare moments where he's not on the road, Mark is busy working on a book, a new DVD, and an all-new stand-up comedy show. While all of these things keep him really busy, Mark wouldn't have it any other way; he still remembers, every day, those who gave him a hand up when he was at his worst and most vulnerable, and now he's found a way to pay it forward, while encouraging others to do the same.
