Confidesk Allows Clients to Use Own Domain for Encrypted Email Service With No Added Cost, Complexity

Own domain a coveted feature for small business owners, entrepreneurs

BAAR, Switzerland, Sept. 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Confidesk (http://www.confidesk.com), a provider of client-side, public key encryption for email and file storage, believes strongly in meeting the needs of users. Among Confidesk's most popular features is the ability of clients to use a unique email domain rather than the system default. Few providers offer this level of versatility and customization, and almost none offer it for free.

"Users of email and file encryption services have often had to adapt to using a default domain," explained Robert Nemet, CIO of Confidesk. "We believe in giving clients more freedom. The own domain feature gives clients the best of both worlds – unbreakable encryption for messages and files, all under the umbrella of a familiar domain name."

Confidesk.com is the default email domain for users of the service, but the own domain feature enables a quick, easy changeover. Clients still log into their accounts with their Confidesk credentials, but outgoing messages will appear to originate from the client's domain. The company does not offer domain registration, so clients who want to use the domain feature must already have ownership of a domain.

Traditionally, establishing a personal or organizational email space has been a relatively technical procedure. After purchasing a domain, users often require the help of an IT professional to configure the email space, which absorbs even more resources. Confidesk eliminates the need to spend that extra time and money, apart from acquiring the domain itself. The custom domain feature is free even for free account holders.

To activate the own domain feature, clients first add their domain to the system via their mail settings. Next, they receive instructions on how to configure their domain to work with Confidesk. Clients can enact these changes themselves or forward the instructions to their domain service provider.

A single Confidesk account allows for up to 6 unique email addresses per domain, one of which functions as the primary address. For example, clients who own or manage small businesses can easily share their domain with employees; alternatively, clients can share their domain with friends and family. Additional users need only register for a free individual account with Confidesk to begin taking advantage of safe, encrypted email and file storage.

Once additional users have confirmed their accounts, they simply request to add an alias from within the mail settings of their account menu. The domain owner will then see the new alias in the list of emails to approve. The new email address is ready to use immediately upon approval.

Lock-tight encryption has traditionally been the concern of enterprises, particularly those handling sensitive and valuable data, but recently individual Internet users have become increasingly conscious of security and privacy issues. The media is flush with stories of massive data breaches or the outright sale of personal information by service providers. Confidesk offers a toolset that empowers users to stop feeling like commodities; the demand for the company's services is growing, thanks to its commitment to data privacy.

A free Confidesk account provides access to 50MB of storage, along with a suite of powerful, web-based tools. The data center is located in Switzerland, where information privacy laws are among the strictest anywhere. The service works across any platform – Windows, OS X, Linux, iOS and Android. Clients therefore enjoy safe access to their data wherever they are on any device. Signing up for a free account entails no risk or obligation.
