About the National Institutes of Health

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is the leading supporter of biomedical research in the world. NIH is comprised of twenty-seven Institutes, Centers and Divisions and is an agency of the U.S, Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The Clinical Center Complex (CCC) is defined as the Warren Grant Magnuson Building (Building 10), the Ambulatory Care Research Facility (ACRF) and the Mark O. The mission of the NIH is to uncover new knowledge that will lead to better health for everyone, to seek fundamental knowledge about the nature and behavior of living systems and the application of that knowledge to enhance health, lengthen life, and reduce illness and disability. The NIH accomplishes that mission by conducting research in its own laboratories; supporting the research of non-Federal scientists in universities, medical schools, hospitals, and research institutions; helping in the training of research investigators; and fostering communication of biomedical information.
