Armato is helping to raise awareness of the unnecessary and outdated use of animal experimentation
NEW YORK, July 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — "The small pets that children love and play with – such as birds, and fish and frogs – are continually being used in experimentations by universities, medical schools, and pharmaceutical companies around the world, and quite frankly, we think it should stop," stated Joseph Armato, an industry-leading contractor for over 25 years, who in his spare time has made the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) one of his causes.
"It started with rats…then mice…now animals of a variety of species are senselessly being tested, then euthanized, in VERY poorly regulated environments," Mr. Armato continued. "When I discovered that many doctors were questioning the legitimacy of these experiments on these defenseless animals, their arguments made a lot of sense to me. What it comes down to is that this "testing" is not only cruel, but the so-called medical progress is being held back by misleading animal models, and that many of the tests are outdated. In addition, there is no reliability on the effects these tests have on humans, the costs outweigh the benefits, and, bottom line, these animals have an intrinsic right not to be used for experimentation."
Mr. Armato is attempting to raise the awareness of this issue for the physicians and other healthcare professionals associated with the PCRM throughout his contracting and consulting industry. "It's needless. And it's cruel. Besides, doctors have already identified advanced technological alternatives, but, unfortunately, as they say, 'it takes a big ship a long time to turn just a little.' But we're going to persevere, and give these poor animals a voice they do not have."
