Blue Ribbon Panel shares their insight and gives recommendations to help advance cancer research.
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., July 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Leading cancer experts, including Debbie's Dream Foundation: Curing Stomach Cancer (DDF) Medical Advisory Board Member Dr. Edith P. Mitchell, were named to the Blue Ribbon Panel for the National Cancer Moonshot Initiative. This panel will serve as the National Cancer Advisory Board, which guides the National Cancer Institute and contributes to the overall approach of the Cancer Moonshot Initiative. The Blue Ribbon Panel's purpose is to advise on the best methods to deal with challenging research areas and how to advance the Cancer Moonshot Initiative. Their recommendations are expected to be released in August 2016 and will be used by the National Cancer Advisory Board in regards to the Cancer Moonshot task force.

Dr. Mitchell is a Clinical Professor of Medicine and Medical Oncology and Program Leader in Gastrointestinal Oncology at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In addition, she holds the positions of Associate Director of Diversity Programs for the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center (SKCC) at Jefferson, Director of the SKCC's Center to Eliminate Cancer Disparities, and President of the National Medical Association. Dr. Mitchell has been a member of the DDF Medical Advisory Board since 2012 and was appointed Vice Chair of Board for the upcoming July 2016 term. She is also the 2015 DDF Medical Tree of Life Award Recipient due to her outstanding contributions to the field and support of Debbie's Dream Foundation.
