Dentist Harnesses Dental Implant Technologies for Creation of Inter_X Golf Grip; New Technology Designed to Assist Golfers in Quickly Interchanging Grips Premieres at the PGA Merchandising Show 2014

WELLESLEY, Mass., Sept. 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — The new Inter_X Golf Grip with quick-change technology will be introduced at the PGA Merchandising Show 2014. The initial application of this new and exciting technology is being applied to putters. Presently, a golfer buys a putter based on the head and shaft materials, shape, size and feel. A golfer has no choice of which grip they would like to use. There are many different types of putter grips such as midsized, oversized, round, and pistol. The Inter_X Golf Grip allows a golfer to quickly interchange grips on a new or old putter.

Presently, to try a new grip, the old grip is cut off and old adhesive tape scraped off. New adhesive tape is applied and a new grip placed over the shaft. Double-sided adhesive tape requires the use of a liquid such as acetone to make it slippery when placing a grip. It is a long difficult process to change a grip which precludes a golfer from trying many different grips at the point of purchase and discovering which grip feels best.

The new Inter-X grip is placed over a shaft and secured in seconds ready for use. Grips are placed on new or used putter shafts with no shaft alteration. A quick release of the securing mechanism and a grip is removed so a new one can be placed on a shaft. A golfer selects the best-feeling grip and leaves the store to play golf. If after several days the golfer decides they do not like the grip, it is quickly removed and a new one placed on the putter.

Often, a golfer putts poorly and tries a different putter. A new option will be to try a different grip. Golfers will try different putters in stores and often like the look or feel of a putter but can only accept the provided grip. Now they can try different grips on different putters.

Several technology patents have been applied for. In addition, a patent has been applied for the concept of utilizing quick change of grips at the point of purchase regardless of the technique used. The technology is being further developed for use on all golf clubs.

Dr. Paul Chalifoux, a dentist in Wellesley, Massachusetts, is the inventor of the Inter_X Golf Grip. Frustrated by the difficulty of changing golf grips, Dr. Chalifoux applied several of his dental implant technologies to join crowns to implants to golf grips and clubs. The technology was further developed by a PGA professional / PhD in mechanical engineering. At this point, the Inter-X grips have been prototyped as a pistol, medium and oversize grips to demonstrate their use.

Companies that sell golf clubs will have the ability to define their own grips and index them so only their grips will fit their clubs increasing profits. Third-party grip manufacturers will not be able to produce grips to fit these clubs. It is a win for the golfer and a win for the golf companies that manufacture clubs.
