Differentiated Instruction Takes the Spotlight at National Educator Conference

LAS VEGAS and PETERBOROUGH, N.H., May 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Teachers and administrators of kindergarten through grade 12 have the opportunity to select from more than 220 grade- and topic-specific sessions at the annual National Conference on Differentiated Instruction hosted by Staff Development for Educators (SDE) taking place July 18-22, 2016 at the Venetian Resort in Las Vegas. More than 3,000 teachers and administrators from across the U.S. and the world are expected to attend the high-energy and inspiring event held each July.

To make the more than 220 differentiated instruction (DI) sessions over four days easier to approach, conference organizers have created eight unique strand suggestions tailored to specific audiences. These strands include "DI Foundations" for those new to DI strategy and implementation, and "DI Next Steps" for those with an established DI framework who are looking for further direction to apply deeper strategies in their classrooms or schools. Additionally, strands covering grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12 have been compiled for the convenience of attendees. Strands addressing administrator topics and special populations have also been developed. Attendees are also welcome to select their own customized session agenda that steps outside of these suggested paths.

"This is a great opportunity for educators to sharpen their teaching skills and bring home sound, practical strategies that will make their teaching not only easier, but more inspiring," says Mia Leonard-Solis, the conference's planner. "The end result will be classrooms full of engaged, critical thinkers who have found success and joy through DI techniques that worked for them."

Leonard-Solis programmed the four-day conference to cover the hottest topics educators are facing today, including addressing prevalent state and national standards for student achievement. Popular topics at the event include assessment, behavior management, character education, collaboration, critical thinking, inquiry-based learning, intervention, literacy, math, project-based learning, school improvement, science, social studies, STEM, technology, and tiering.

Also part of the event are two unique pre-conference events being held on Monday, July 18. SDE's K-12 Administrator Summit will feature more than 25 sessions focused on leadership and school change presented by ten highly recognized leadership experts and authors. Topics that will be addressed include shaping sustainable reform, building exquisite respect in schools, implementing STEAM curriculum, coaching and mentoring for teachers and staff, advancing student achievement, and rallying parental engagement and empowerment. SDE's K-6 Power-Up! event will feature more than 15 sessions focused on integrating technology into today's classrooms. Sessions will cover popular topics including using technology in project-based learning, technology interventions, math centers and games with a tech twist, technology acquisition and grant writing, and using technology to grow Personal Learning Networks (PLNs). Both pre-conference events require separate registration and tuition from the main DI Conference.

The National Conference on Differentiated Instruction is one of eight national conferences that SDE hosts each summer, divided between Las Vegas, Chicago, and Orlando.
