Disabled Veterans National Foundation Sends Grants to Two Veteran Organizations

WASHINGTON, July 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — The Disabled Veterans National Foundation (www.dvnf.org), a non-profit veterans service organization that focuses on helping men and women who serve and return home wounded or sick after defending our safety and our freedom, announces the recent grant of $10,000 to ARVets, a Little Rock, Arkansas-based veterans organization. DVNF also gave a $2,500 grant to the Arlington, VA-based Fenwick Foundation.

The $10,000 grant to ARVets (www.arvets.org) was awarded for the organization's Job Training and Career Development Program. The program is a job readiness initiative that improves the ability of veterans to successfully acquire and sustain gainful employment. The program provides the veteran with training on how to meet employer workplace expectations and to communicate the value of their military experience.

Similar to DVNF's Employment Webinar Series, ARVets has a shared commitment to giving veterans the resources and the know-how when attempting to secure employment. DVNF believes that a main reason veteran unemployment has been so high is because many veterans simply do not successfully translate their military experience into civilian terms.

In another recent grant, DVNF gave $2,500 to the Fenwick Foundation (www.thefenwickfoundation.org) in support of its US Military Service/Service-Disabled Veterans program. This program provides: outside event opportunities to veterans in community living centers or assisted living facilities, financial assistance and respite opportunities for caregivers and families, homeless veterans assistance and assistance to veterans and families staying in Fisher House facilities.

DVNF's grant to the Fenwick Foundation was for their activities program. DVNF stated that fun activities, such as those the Fenwick Foundation hosts, are very important for the quality of life of veterans in assisted living or respite care facilities.

"Both of these organizations have shown that they are committed to the wellbeing of veterans," said Precilla Wilkewitz, President of DVNF. "We applaud their hard work, thank them for their efforts, and hope that these funds will help them continue the great things they do on behalf of the veterans of our great nation."
