Dominican University Attains Accreditation from National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education

Degree programs include MAEd concentrations in Elementary Education, ESL and Reading, offered 100% online.

TAMPA, Fla., Dec. 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Dominican University, a U.S. News & World Report-ranked university, is pleased to announce it has received esteemed accreditation earlier this year from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

NCATE standards are performance-based, focusing on the ability of teacher candidates to demonstrate the subject matter knowledge and professional skills necessary to help all students learn. Institutions must provide evidence that teacher education programs include qualified faculty and a commitment to preparing teachers to use educational technology.

Recognized as a professional accrediting body for teacher preparation by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education, NCATE seeks to "make a difference in the quality of teaching."

"Dominican University is committed to providing the highest-quality teacher education programs," said Colleen Reardon, EdD, Dean of the School of Education. "Teacher candidates who graduate from NCATE-accredited institutions are better prepared for licensing and advanced certifications, and to meet the challenges of today's classroom," Reardon said.

Dominican's 100% online MAEd programs in Reading, English as a Second Language and Elementary Education are powered by University Alliance technology, and provide 24/7 access to streaming and downloadable video-based lectures in a virtual classroom. Students also participate in interactive message boards and live chat rooms.
