New Educational Series on Real Life Recovery Announced by La Jolla Cosmetic Surgery Centre

Ongoing series will help prepare patients for smooth, safe recovery from cosmetic surgery

SAN DIEGO, Dec. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — It's one thing to receive instructions to rest for two weeks or more after plastic surgery; it's another to try and do that with a family or work colleagues depending on you to be there. To help patients prepare for their own recovery process, the plastic surgeons at La Jolla Cosmetic Surgery Centre (LJCSC) are publishing a new series of in-depth articles devoted to Real Life Recovery.

"It's not uncommon for cosmetic surgery to be a patient's first surgical experience," says Dr. Johan Brahme, medical director at LJCSC. "Understandably, patients have a lot of questions about how they will feel and what impact their recovery will have on their work and family life."

LJCSC is known worldwide for their patient education materials, particularly surgical education and recovery information, with thousands of practices using concepts developed by LJCSC to educate their patients. However, most of those materials have traditionally been available only to patients of the practice. The Real Life Recovery series is part of an initiative to make more of this useful and reassuring information available through the website to help all prospective patients.

A collaborative effort between the Centre's plastic surgeons and patient care team, the series aims to better educate patients about the practical aspects of recovery after plastic surgery that may not be covered in medical instructions for post-operative care.

Each article in the Real Life Recovery series will address a specific aspect of the cosmetic surgery recovery experience, covering such topics as:

  • The mental & emotional side of recovery
  • Managing family responsibilities during the recovery process
  • When it is okay to go drive or return to work
  • Tips for a safer, speedier recovery

Throughout the series, the LJCSC surgeons stress the importance of getting adequate rest while recovering after a cosmetic procedure; doing too much too soon can jeopardize a patient's health and possibly even compromise their results.

"Naturally, patients want to make a full recovery from plastic surgery as quickly as possible," says Dr. Brahme. "By looking at recovery from a real-life perspective, we can offer practical advice to help patients plan ahead, so they can have a safe and smooth return to work and family life."

The first installment of the Real Life Recovery Series, "How Long Will I Need Help with My Kids?" was recently published on LJCSC's website. The article discusses the unique concerns of recovery with small children at home.

New articles in the series will continue to be posted on the La Jolla Cosmetic Surgery Centre's plastic surgery blog throughout 2014.
