eLaw Arrives in New Jersey

eLaw.com is an Internet service that helps lawyers get a good night's sleep

NEWARK, N.J., June 2, 2006 — Do you ever get "confirmation angst"? You know, that strange sick feeling which comes from being unable to confirm that your motion was filed timely? Or served timely? Is it lying in the back seat of some courier's car or underneath a huge pile on a clerk's desk? You worked all night to get this done and if it doesn't get on the calendar today you're in deep trouble. OK, relax. In a few days you can call the court, or check their web site to see that it made it. But of course, by that time it will be too late to do anything about it if it didn't make it. Besides there are plenty of other things to obsess about in the meantime.

If you practice law in NJ and NY, you don't have to live like this anymore. eLaw.com, a service offered by the Lawyers Diary and Manual, NJ Lawyers Service, and American Clerical, provides a better way to monitor cases and serve papers.

"We take data directly from the Court's computers, decode, demystify and organize it in a meaningful way and then send it to you as information you can use," explains COO Ed Denne. "We alert you, and anyone else you designate (staff, clients, co-counsel, etc.), by email, fax, PDA or smoke signal – whichever method works best for you. We can even synchronize the dates with Outlook, TimeMatters, and other popular calendar management programs."

But eLaw is not only about calendar dates. Using the Court's electronic docket as a backdrop, eLaw allows lawyers and staff to serve documents upon adversaries and co-defendants in a safe, secure, and confidential environment. "Gone are the costs and hassles associated with paper, toner, copying, collating, packaging, postage and courier – a savings of almost 80 percent and countless hours compared to traditional methods," calculates Dominick Esposito, eLaw's VP and Director of Business Development. "We have already seen real firms save real money right here in NJ using our electronic service product," says Esposito, "and they continue to save more time and more money with every filing."

Today eLaw announced the availability of State and Federal docket information for New Jersey, complementing complete coverage in New York. Also available is enhanced integration for all of eLaw's electronic components with re-designed screens and processes.

While the Federal District and Bankruptcy Courts have already made electronic filing mandatory in all cases, NY and NJ are just beginning to explore such possibilities. According to President Joe Bottitta, "There are a variety of pilot projects underway on both sides of the Hudson. There are more than a few lawyers who want to be a part of this who are struggling with the issues of training, staff coordination, and workflow. These are precisely the opportunities eLaw addresses head on and allows these forward thinkers to reap the benefits sooner without undue expense and wasted effort."

eLaw has been open for business since 2000 and amassed quite a following in NYC before the full statewide launch in NJ this week. The service boasts more than 100,000 users who, to date, have monitored more than 3 million court dates and served over 50,000 documents.

"It is no longer a question of if. It is not even a question of when, for the time is now. The only question is how?" queries Jerry Krivitzky, eLaw Chairman & CEO. "How will you make use of all the available technologies to manage the opportunities presented by electronic courts and electronic records? There are issues relating to client confidentiality, document integrity and security, email delivery (think spam blocking), collaboration, remote access, redaction, archiving, disbursement recapture, and systems integration. Do you want to tackle these yourself with an AOL account and a laptop? Or do you want to use that laptop to connect to an organization that has been managing these issues for lawyers for decades? Wouldn't you prefer to spend more time on your work or with your clients, maybe even your family, rather than with your nose in a .pdf manual?"

"These are the questions. We built eLaw to provide the answers," concludes Krivitzky.

eLaw(R) offers instantaneous access to court data for Supreme Court civil cases in all 62 counties of New York; the Southern, Eastern, Northern and Western New York Federal District Courts and the New Jersey Federal District Courts; New York, Kings, Queens, Richmond and the Bronx City Civil Courts; and the 1st and 2nd New York Appellate Departments – and now access to New Jersey Superior like none other. eLaw(R) is the document repository for several bankruptcies including Enron and WorldCom. eLaw also provides an entirely electronic experience for filing demands, responses, exhibits, service – indeed all correspondence and forms associated with the arbitration and New Jersey PIP cases and court cases.
