BETHPAGE, N.Y., Oct. 9, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Internationally-renowned expressionist painter Giovanni DeCunto(http://giovannidecunto.com/) will bring his talent to Long Island this Fall. "The Spirit & The Modern" arrives exclusively at Grumman Gallery, in Bethpage, beginning October 16th. The exhibit will explore the duality of the centered, innermost self and our near-fanatical obsession with celebrity, the afterlife and technology.

Giovanni DeCunto has always looked at trends and pop-culture for iconoclasts, which led him to a massive array of portrait work. DeCunto has created art of such famous faces as: Gianni Versace, Michael Jordan, Robert DeNiro, Tupac Shakur and Frank Sinatra, to name a few.
"We are in an important age; this technological revolution. I am a classicist and art is my medium, but I can see that our belief in different things; religion, language, etc. is changing. Facebook has made the way we communicate universal. And for that, Facebook can be considered a new religion," DeCunto said.
Giovanni DeCunto's work has landed in many permanent collections, such as: the Smithsonian, the Harvard University Fogg Museum, the MIT Historical Collection, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the University of Kentucky, The Monarch Club, and The Reusch Collection in Zurich, Switzerland. In 1997, Giovanni exhibited his work at the EUNO Royal Museum in Japan as part of a retrospective of Jackson Pollack and Robert Mapplethorpe.

The future is how we reveal those two things, and we can only do that if we are willing to get over ourselves," DeCunto said.
