ForensicSoft Announces Latest Release of SAFE During Techno Forensics 2009 Held at NIST Headquarters

GAITHERSBURG, Md., Oct. 27, 2009 — Techno Forensics & Digital Investigations Conference, Booth #209 — ForensicSoft announces the latest release of SAFE, Version 1.1, during Techno Forensics 2009 held at NIST Headquarters. SAFE is the world's first write-blocked Windows forensic boot environment. SAFE is a new Windows-based computer forensic platform specifically designed to support the expanding needs of computer forensic experts to confidently acquire, preview and analyze digital evidence to be presented in a court of law. Released earlier this summer, SAFE is rapidly gaining popularity among litigation support firms, forensic experts, corporate legal departments, and the law enforcement, military and intelligence communities.

All registered customers of SAFE v.1.0 are eligible to download v.1.1 from their account at http://www.forensicsoft.com. SAFE v1.1 will be available to all customers on November 4, 2009. Enhancements to this latest version of SAFE include improved device driver detection and support, as well as additional logging capabilities. In addition, specific feature enhancements include:

  • Notification provided during device detection if a driver cannot be loaded for a disk or network controller
  • SAFE Minimal Boot Mode, allows rapid booting and ability to boot x86 devices with only 256MB RAM
  • SAFE USB, quickly builds a USB Boot Disk using the latest version of SAFE
  • SAFE Tools, now supports international date/time formats, and other feature enhancements

When using the new Minimal Boot Mode, SAFE can now boot target devices with as little as 256MB of RAM. Minimal Boot Mode not only allows for faster boot times, but is ideal for gathering evidence from older, early generation PCs, servers, and other x86 devices equipped with minimal resources.

Unlike conventional forensic boot disks that use superficial protection techniques such as mounting drives as read-only, ForensicSoft's SAFE platform employs the company's proprietary SAFE Block software technology to block all disks at the physical level to ensure a forensically sound preview, exploration and capture of the digital evidence. Investigators can be confident that all digital evidence is unaltered during the SAFE exploration and acquisition, and therefore is reliable and defensible when presented during litigation. SAFE Block technology is the only software write-blocker to successfully pass all of the U.S. National Institute of Standards (NIST) test criteria. Visit the company's website to review these results.

SAFE uses Microsoft Windows PE, a fully licensed copy of which is included with the product. SAFE is capable of running your favorite Windows-based forensic tools such as FTK, EnCase, X-Ways, etc. With the familiar Windows user experience, SAFE requires minimal training for investigators to become proficient with its use. And, since SAFE is a Windows-based computer forensic platform, investigators have access to the widest array of drivers for existing computer hardware, and immediate availability of new Windows drivers for new computer hardware. Drivers can be added at any time during a SAFE session, requiring no special skills or the need to recompile a new boot disk.
