NEW YORK, Feb. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ – Gold Crest Care Center, a premier rehabilitation and skilled nursing center located in the Bronx, has invited the entire community and is continuing to offer free blood pressure checks for the entire month of February, which is National Heart Month, and has now announced that they will continue in their efforts throughout March as well.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, killing more than 600,000 Americans each year. For this reason, Gold Crest Care Center is devoting the month of February to raising awareness of heart health for all of their friends and neighbors in the community.
Blood pressure is determined by the amount of blood your heart pumps and the amount of resistance to blood flow in your arteries. The more blood your heart pumps and the narrower your arteries, the higher your blood pressure. You can have high blood pressure (hypertension) for years without any symptoms. Uncontrolled high blood pressure increases your risk of serious health problems, including heart attack and stroke. High blood pressure typically develops over many years, and it affects nearly everyone eventually. Fortunately, high blood pressure can be easily detected. And once you know you have high blood pressure, you can work with your doctor to control it.
"We have been overwhelmed by the response to our program," stated Mark Salamon, Administrator at Gold Crest. "Heart Disease is truly an epidemic and this is our way of contributing to its prevention."
Gold Crest Care Center is located at 2316 Bruner Ave. in the Bronx. They will be providing free blood pressure checks daily through the end of March from 2 – 5 p.m.
