The list of 50 great colleges was whittled from a larger list of 111 schools with computer science and engineering programs. Public and private institutions were sorted not just by price, but also according to ratings by U.S. News and World Report for the nation's best science and engineering schools. The top 50 results are separated into five geographic regions with overall rankings for each individual school as well as tuition rates before and after applying grants and scholarships.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, a college degree in computer science and/or engineering is a solid foundation for a number of high-paying occupations. Post-graduates on average can earn up to $100,000 or more per year. The cost of computer science and engineering degrees, however, can be out of reach for many undergraduates.
