Halloween Kickstarter Challenge Grant Offered by the Rudin Family Foundation and the Association for a Better New York

The Greenwich Village-Chelsea Chamber of Commerce Reached out to Members Spreading the Word about the Kickstarter Campaign

The Parade must raise $15,000 in the next week to achieve the Match

NEW YORK, Oct. 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — The Greenwich Village-Chelsea Chamber of Commerce, a non-profit organization that provides civic leadership and effective programming to promote, educate, network, and advocate for the heart of Manhattan, today announced the Rudin Family Foundations and the Association for a Better New York (ABNY) will give a $15,000 matching funds grant if the Kickstarter campaign for the Village Halloween Parade raises $15,000 in the next week.

"The Rudin Family Foundations have supported the Village Halloween Parade since 1993 and together with the Associated for Better New York (ABNY) Foundation, we are proud to stand with other supporters to help bring this year's Village Halloween Parade to life. It is an important part of the fabric of our city, and we encourage all New Yorkers to support the parade and celebrate Halloween 2013 in the village," said Bill Rudin, Vice-Chairman of Rudin Management Company and Chairman of the Association for a Better New York.

Last year due to Superstorm Sandy, the Parade suffered a last minute cancellation; the first in the parade's history. Out $50,000 from the cancellation and with additional insurance needed to protect sponsors after Superstorm Sandy against unfavorable circumstances and loses from the cancellation, the parade has been in desperate need of support from the community.  The Greenwich Village-Chelsea Chamber of Commerce has been reaching out to its members, partners, and network to spread the word about the Kickstarter campaign, an effort to recover considerable financial losses from the last minute cancellation, that is now active and running to help the parade meet its financial goal of $50,000.

"It is truly inspiring for the Parade to receive the support of such extraordinarily committed New Yorkers, the Rudin Family, ABNY, and GVCCC," stated Jeanne Fleming, Artistic and Producing Director of the Village Halloween Parade. "We hope this generous donation will inspire everyone to donate this week and help bring back the Halloween Parade that means so much to all."

"After finding out that the parade was in financial trouble, I immediately reached out to the organizers to see what we can do to help," said Tom Gray, Executive Director of the Greenwich Village-Chelsea Chamber of Commerce. "The Village Parade is a beloved event that thousands of local residents and businesses look forward to each year. We thank Bill Rudin for leading the effort and helping fuel the campaign on its final days to save the parade."
