Harnessing the Power of Intel Data Center Manager (DCM) Technology, device42 Provides Accurate, Real-time Power Monitoring and Control, Translating to Significant Energy Cost Savings for Data Center Managers

Device42 to be showcased in Intel Booth #1243 at AFCOM Las Vegas on May 1

NEW HAVEN, Conn., April 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Device42, an industry-leading data center management provider, today announced the integration of Intel Data Center Manager (DCM) to offer a fully integrated real-time monitoring and control solution. By incorporating the extensive Intel DCM power and thermal management and control capabilities, the device42 data center management capabilities have now been broadened to include a full suite of energy management capabilities.

The EPA estimates that the power consumed by data centers will continue to grow by 12 percent per year. As the costs associated with power and thermal consumption continues to occupy an increasing part of the CIO budgets, there is a growing recognition of the ROI from real-time monitoring and management at the device level. Data center managers have found that by monitoring consumption of power in real time, they can lower the power delivered to idling servers and lower their costs by as much as 40 percent. Additionally, using actual historical data for base lining power consumption, as opposed to using conservative estimates, allows for better planning for the future.

Using the Intel DCM technology, device42 now provides accurate, real-time power and thermal monitoring and control of servers, racks, rooms, and buildings and power equipment such as PDU's and UPS's in data centers.

"Intel DCM is a power management solution stack for the data center," said Jeff Klaus, General Manager, Data Center Solutions, Intel Corporation. "By integrating Intel DCM with the device42 Real-Time Power Module, the combined solution provides an impressive array of analytics and scenario capabilities for data center managers."

The device42 Real-Time Power Module will enable customers to:

  • Get real time power and thermal heat maps for devices, racks, rooms, and buildings
  • Get real-time alerts for power and temperature deviations
  • Get time series power and temperature graphs to enable accurate power, cooling, virtualization, fault-tolerance, and capacity planning
  • Set power policies for real-time control of individual devices and groups of devices
  • Understand energy consumption and conservation opportunities
  • Reduce their energy operating expenses
  • Reduce their carbon footprint
  • Get access to Intel's ever-expanding catalog of data center devices that includes devices from vendors such as Dell, HP, IBM, Cisco, and many others

The unique value proposition of device42 is the ease and speed of loading and maintaining a corporation's DCIM data. With device42, installation is a breeze. Users can get current inventory in device42 quickly and easily with an extensive auto-discovery toolset, spreadsheet imports, and/or RESTful APIs. This ease of use and simplicity is extended into the power management solution: Once the assets are loaded into the device42 software, it is easy and simple to monitor energy consumption for capacity planning purposes and to create real-time energy control policies.
