The first ICW observance was organized in 1999 by ICF Master Certified Coach Jerri N. Udelson.

ICF's announcement follows the association's largest celebration of ICW yet. During ICW 2015, held May 18 – 24, 2015, more than 50 ICF Chapters worldwide hosted events to increase public awareness of coaching and ICF, introduce businesses and organizations to the many benefits of professional coaching, and advance professional development for and the exchange of ideas among coaches. ICW 2015 highlights included:

  • ICF Hong Kong's first-ever ICW event, "East Meets West: Coaching in Asia." The interactive luncheon, developed in collaboration with the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, targeted coaching consumers and included an educational presentation on coaching trends and cross-cultural coaching and a set of laser coaching demonstrations.
  • Pro bono "street coaching" sessions delivered by ICF Greece coaches in Athens' city center.
  • A series of professional development workshops and webinars for coaches hosted by ICF Peru.
  • The premiere of Kentaro's Credential Legacy, the final video in ICF Global's award-winning Credential Legacy video series. The video, featuring ICF Associate Certified Coach and ICF Japan president Kentaro Hayashi, demonstrated how partnering with an ICF-credentialed coach can help individuals clarify their purpose and goals.

"ICW has evolved into a global phenomenon," said ICF Global CEO/Executive Director Magda Mook. "By joining forces during ICW 2015 to deliver pro bono coaching sessions, workshops and conferences, ICF Chapters and professional coaches around the world were able to increase awareness of professional coaching and ICF for hundreds of individuals and organizations."
