IMMAF Ruling Allows Mixed Martial Arts World Championships to Proceed in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, June 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — The first amateur Mixed Martial Arts World Championships will proceed as planned in the sport's unofficial capital, Las Vegas, Nevada, on June 30-July 5, 2014.

Marquis Aurbach Coffing attorneys Jason M. Gerber and Vincent J. Vitatoe successfully defended the right of the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) to host the 2014 IMMAF World Championships scheduled to begin on June 30, 2014 at the UNLV's Cox Pavilion.  The World Championships represent a major development in bringing the sport of MMA to an international, world-class level.

On June 25, 2014, in an emergency hearing before United States Federal District Court Judge Jennifer A. Dorsey, Gerber and Vitatoe argued successfully that IMMAF's 2014 World Championships should be permitted to go forward as planned.  The Federal Court denied Plaintiffs Las Vegas Mixed Martial Arts (LVMMA) and Robert Johnston's request to halt the World Championships.

Plaintiffs claimed to be the promoter for the 2014 World Championships as a reason to stop the Championships but could not succeed on any of the legal points necessary to hold up the tournament.  Judge Dorsey ruled that the Plaintiffs' request was not supported by evidence and could not meet the minimum requirements to obtain injunctive relief.

Now, IMMAF and Las Vegas are poised to welcome 150 amateur athletes from 30 different countries, their teams, coaches and families for this landmark 2014 World Championships.  The World Championships' finals will be held at the UFC Fan Expo on July 5, 2014.
