Insider Surveillance Reviews Russia's Surveillance Industry for October Series

"From Vlad, With Love" will Probe Russian providers of lawful intercept, voice biometrics, mobile location, forensics and deep packet inspection.

WASHINGTON, Sept. 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Insider Surveillance, the Journal of Electronic Surveillance Technology, in October will publish an in-depth series of articles on the surveillance technologies of Russia.

Insider Surveillance

The series will explore Russian enterprises that develop and market surveillance products including: lawful intercept hardware, voice and facial biometrics, "IMSI" catchers used in mobile location of targets, forensics, deep packet inspection used in intercepting Web content, and social media monitoring and tracking.

Most Russian surveillance products are available for export. Of note, some surveillance technologies now widely packaged and sold by other companies, and used by national security agencies and police worldwide, originated in Russia.

As a framework, Insider Surveillance will provide an overview of SORM ("System for Operative Investigative Activities"), the system of technical capabilities by which the Federal Security Service (FSB) of the Russian Federation conducts surveillance for counter-intelligence, counter terrorism, border and internal security, and criminal investigations.

"From Vlad, With Love" follows September's series of articles on surveillance players in the United Kingdom, and August's focus on Israeli surveillance companies.
