IPCopper Introduces 10Gbps Packet Capture Appliance with Double Power Redundancy

PORTLAND, Ore., Oct. 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — IPCopper today releases its new USC10M3 network appliance, bringing practical and affordable power redundancy capabilities to 10G packet capture. Along with the failover-passthrough and GPS time synchronization features that come standard with all IPCopper 10G appliances, the USC10M3 incorporates three power inputs: standard AC, standard 12V SLA (sealed lead-acid) battery and 12V general purpose DC.

A dedicated high-performance and high-capacity 10G packet capture appliance, the USC10M3's 48TB internal storage and 8Gbps sustained recording speed efficiently capture the data that busy IT teams need for cybersecurity and network monitoring. Both data-driven tasks require tools that accurately capture and timestamp network traffic without introducing latency, re-ordering packets or otherwise altering the data, results that the USC10M3 capably handles with 100% full packet capture.

Data centers must reliably capture and retain data and keep systems running. Shutting down a network for maintenance is both undesirable and a security hazard, while maintaining sufficient, critical power backup is at times challenging. The USC10M3's power redundancy capabilities lower costs and simplify deployment and maintenance, removing the need for a separate, bulky UPS (and thereby reducing the installation's overall footprint) and increasing the length of time the unit can remain operational during a power outage. It also gives IT teams more options: for situations requiring long-term battery power, a second DC input allows the swapping of batteries without interrupting operations. By removing the inefficient multiple AC/DC power conversions introduced by UPSes, the USC10M3 also minimizes both power loss and heat generation. With a typical power usage of 100W, the USC10M3 achieves hours of uninterrupted operation using compact, economical and widely-available 12V SLA batteries, as compared to bulky UPSes that hold comparable equipment for only minutes.

Common sense solutions are important to day-to-day operations, whether the location is a large data center or an office. Practical solutions such as power redundancy, bypass and GPS time synchronization reduce costs and simplify administration. IPCopper packet capture appliances further feature factory-calibrated low-drift clocks, which combined with GPS time synchronization provide a simple, hassle-free way to maintain accurate timestamping. Automatic and manual bypass increases installation and management options without introducing additional points of failure. Even with the USC10M3's numerous features, performance and security remain front and center:

  • 8Gbps sustained capture speed, up to full 10Gbps, on a pair of 10GBASE-SR ports.
  • Sustained capture and store rate of 6,000,000 packets per second.
  • Menu-driven utility delivers secure access.
  • 20,000-bit dual data encryption.
