iUniverse Presents: 'President Obama's Broken Promises'

"Mr. President, is 'Equal Protection' under the Constitution for straights only?"

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., May 11, 2010 — President Obama's Broken Promises by John Michael Jocelyn & Dirk Brewer.

"Question authority!" Often attributed to Timothy Leary in the 1970s, this popular slogan first slipped off the tongue of Benjamin Franklin, who was often quoted as saying, "it is the first responsibility of every citizen to question authority." And that's exactly what the revolutionary-spirited authors of President Obama's Broken Promises have passionately effectuated as they challenge President Obama – and the nation – to advance the cause of civil rights for all Americans without regard to a person's sexual preference, skin color, or religious beliefs.

President Obama's Broken Promises (published by iUniverse) is a collection of essays and personal stories that analyzes the ideological and spiritual roots of Obama's religious and political mindset. Drawing on more than thirty varying volumes, countless interviews and transcripts, and a miscellany of primary source materials, authors Jocelyn and Brewer provide a compelling glimpse of the president's moral compass as well as the philosophy that inspires much of his rhetoric and principles, with the bottom line question being, "Does President Obama's twenty-year relationship with Reverend Jeremiah Wright compromise his ability to dispassionately scrutinize the moral issues facing this nation?" and "Is there any connection between Reverend Wright's past controversial remarks and the president?" Rooted in secular political and historical analysis with an identical dose of theology thrown in, this treatise cultivates an engaging dialogue on contemporary race, religion, and politics in post-Obama election America – gay or straight.

About the Authors

When grappling with conflicting political or religious ideology, Haitian-American John Michael Jocelyn does not back away. A student of theology, he actively advocates one simple, yet powerful thing – the truth. Awarded the US Air Force Humanitarian Service Medal for his volunteer work in the aftermath of Hurricane Hugo, Jocelyn's own personal mission centers on improving the lives of children and families. His ethnographic study of New Orleans and inner-city America, Bill Cosby Is Right: A Dad's Guide to Caring, was published in 2008. Dirk Brewer's passion follows the curvy two-lane road named "American race relations and contemporary politics." As an undergraduate, his studies focused primarily on 20th century American history. A lifelong resident of the South, his many years in the field of education have earned him respect and accolades from his colleagues. All the profits from this book – their first joint publishing venture – will be donated to charitable organizations that provide aid to the suffering children of Haiti.
