iUniverse Presents: 'Put Your Game Together: Ethical Management in Youth Sports and Business'

CLAYTON, Calif., April 21, 2010 — Donnie Howell was the kid who was raised on food stamps with little parental guidance. It was at a young age when he discovered that his needs would only be met through hard work and a game called football. Howell writes his story of childhood struggles and the lessons he learned along the way to illustrate how to achieve success in a fair and ethical way in his book "Put Your Game Together: Ethical Management in Youth Sports and Business" (published by iUniverse).

Donnie Howell found that his success in business came from treating people fairly and responsibly and applies these same principles when it comes to coaching young people in football and adds another ingredient: parents. Most youth football coaches want to keep parents on the outside looking in, but Howell likes to get parents involved. Whatever the task, managing a business or coaching kids, he believes that a leader who practices ethical behavior and builds a program fair to all will be successful.

Inspired by his desire to bridge the gap that has been created between youth sport coaches and the players' parents, Howell wrote "Put Your Game Together." He wants the book to serve as a reminder that children are looking for the adults to be mature by creating an environment that teaches sportsmanlike behavior, participation and building a game that is fun and fair to everyone. Howell's book shows how he went from being raised in a home by a single mother where there was little money to becoming a business owner through hard work. It was initially the game of football that altered his life and taught the author good work ethics, since winning a trophy doesn't compare to learning the fundamentals of a game that can be carried over into other aspects of life.
