With iCape, you don't have be cut-off from work or family when you get a haircut. A clear plastic window in the iCape makes it possible to text, email, watch a movie or read an ebook when getting your hair styled, while protecting your device from water, chemicals and clippings. Also, young children who have a hard time staying still can play games while a stylist cuts their hair safely and quickly with minimal movement or risk of injury.

The iCape was awarded US Pat 8,418,264 in 2013 and sold out of more than 20,000 units by early 2014. Stylists and their customers love the patented design, which includes a privacy panel behind the window to prevent others from looking in, as well as a covered pass-through for headphones. The upgraded iCape 2.0 will be longer, come in more colors, and have a larger window to accommodate wider screens.

iCape has a five-star rating on Amazon with reviews including, "I love it and my clients love it!" and "Wonderful product. I love this. The design is very nice and the material isn't too hot. Definitely recommend it!!" and "Glad I found this. I just need a cape for family haircuts at home, and this fits the bill…I am thrilled that it has the window so my son can be entertained with the iPad while I cut his hair."

Salons and barbershops offering the iCape drive loyalty with this low-cost, innovative way to enhance their customers' experience. In today's world, where people check their phones every seven minutes, staying in touch with jobs, friends and family is no longer a luxury – it's a necessity. For stylists catering to kids, or people who do home haircuts, the iCape helps stylists cut kids' hair faster and more safely, which allows for more appointments.

"The first version of the iCape was manufactured under license to a large, specialty manufacturer of beauty products, which needed half a year to get the product into the channel," said Chief Product Officer James Alexander. "Crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter are exciting. They're turning product development on its head…de-risking, accelerating and democratizing product innovation by proving market demand before 1,000 pallets of a product no one wants show up on the loading dock. When big customers and distributors can place larger orders with confidence, it lowers costs for everyone."

"iCape" is a registered trademark of Capemakers LLC and the product is patented. A second patent is pending.
