New research cited by The White House confirms that on-campus or online education is the key to earning more

The Jobs of Tomorrow Require On-Campus or Online Education
In their report entitled Preparing the Workers of Today for the Jobs of Tomorrow, the President's Council of Economic Advisors notes that the fastest-growing occupations are those that require education beyond high school. Whether a student pursues a traditional or distance education is becoming less and less important; most employers are simply looking for bright, well-trained professionals. They want workers who can think critically and apply expertise to solve problems.
According to the Council's report, the most rapid growth will be in careers that require a vocational certification (which usually takes about a year to complete) or an associate's degree (which typically takes about two). Some of these professions* are:
- Nursing aides, orderlies and attendants – vocational certification
- Truck and tractor-trailer drivers – vocational certification
- Registered Nurses (RNs) – associate's degree
- Veterinary technicians – associate's degree
- Web designers – associate's degree
The Higher the Degree, the Greater the Advantages
More advanced degrees, whether earned through traditional or distance education, can offer even greater advantages to those who are willing to invest the time and effort to attain one. Professionals who hold a bachelor's degree or higher commonly receive better benefits, more vacation time and are less than half as likely to experience unemployment.
As the country emerges from the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, Americans are starting to realize that true prosperity requires more than just having a job – it requires having a good job. The Preparing the Workers of Today for the Jobs of Tomorrow report notes that jobs "that pay high wages and provide a ticket to the middle class … disproportionately tend to employ workers with education and training beyond the high school level." Now more than ever, workers have to learn their way to success.
