Litera Receives Top International Legal Technology Awards

MCLEANSVILLE, N.C., Aug. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — This year's International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) 2014 Distinguished Peer Vendor Awards saw Litera take home two of three total awards: "Vendor Thought Leader of the Year" and "Innovative Consultant of the Year."

At the ILTA Distinguished Peer Awards banquet, ILTA leadership honoured founder and CEO Deepak Massand for his leadership of Litera from a single product start-up in 2001 to one of the leading software companies serving the legal IT space today; now with over a dozen innovative document lifecycle management products, used by more than half of the global 200 law firms and scores of smaller firms.

With more than 14 patents to his name, committee members bestowed Massand with the Vendor Thought Leader Award for maximizing the value of technology in support of the legal profession, providing quality educational opportunities for ILTA members and ongoing learning to help navigate through change. Also cited was Massand's ability to listen to both lawyers and technologists, understand their issues, and develop creative technology to fill the workflow gaps as the reason he has earned both their business and more importantly, their trust.

"I am humbled by this honour and would like to thank my hard-working, brilliant team for helping me to achieve our vision. They challenge the technology status quo, deliver outstanding service every day, and really help our clients make significant productivity gains and reduce information security risk,"  says Massand. "I would also like to congratulate the twelve other law firm award winners, almost all of whom are long-term Litera clients, and thank them for their on-going partnership. Your commitment to excellence is an inspiration to us all."

Litera's Sherry Kappel received the "Innovative Consultant of the Year Award" at the event for her outstanding achievements in the provision of strategic technology services in the legal environment. ILTA thanked her for her exceptional assistance in applying technology to the practice of law and for her enthusiastic educational presentations and content.

Sherry's technical breadth and depth of knowledge, especially in the areas of content creation, content collaboration and mitigating content risk, were noted to be why she has earned the trust of the ILTA membership over the past nearly 30 years. Her most recent consulting offerings "Auditing Content Creation and Collaboration Workflows" and "Developing Certified Information Professionals (AIIM)" were highlighted as being of particular value to the legal technology community.

"It is truly my privilege to assist such exceptional firms in developing their future technology vision and work with such bright, dedicated IT professionals," says Kappel, Litera's Chief Consiliaria.  "There couldn't be a more exciting time to leverage the rich, evolving technologies available today. I look forward to helping firms innovate their content workflows."
