Livingston Business Executive Mark Dunec Officially Declares Candidacy for New Jersey 11th District Congressional Seat

Democrat promises to make 2014 election a referendum on fiscal responsibility, social consideration and accountability in Congress

LIVINGSTON, N.J., Nov. 18, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Livingston business executive Mark Dunec officially declared his candidacy yesterday as a Democrat for the 11th District congressional seat currently held by 10-term Republican representative Rodney Frelinghuysen.  The announcement comes two weeks after the elections in which Democrats retained control of the New Jersey legislature.

The announcement was welcomed by a full capacity crowd of citizens, business leaders and elected officials – including Democratic party heads in the district – who gathered at the Sheraton Hotel in Parsippany, New Jersey to voice their personal and political support for the first-time candidate for Congress."

Dunec told the crowd he shares their concerns over unemployment, the growing national debt and "a Congress that has been hijacked by people more willing to shut down the government than solve problems." Mark Dunec promised to represent a return to fiscal responsibility, social consideration and personal accountability in Washington, DC.

"We need to change the conversation in Washington — away from rigid ideologies and toward common sense solutions," Dunec said. "In contrast to my opponent's partisan voting record of siding 92-plus percent of the time with his fellow Republicans — including his recent about-face vote to shutdown the government — my office will be known for pursuing solutions across the aisle, without regard to party affiliations or special interest influence.

Acknowledging the 11th District's historically Republican majority, Dunec pointed to growing evidence that the seat is winnable, including an October Public Policy poll which showed a Democrat challenger would defeat Frelinghuysen by eight percentage points.  Dunec also shared data that revealed the incumbent's high disapproval levels among voters in the district.

"When I look at the lack of leadership this district has suffered — for almost 20 years — I am determined to fill the void," Dunec said. "You deserve better. Washington must do better. It's time for the status quo to go."
