ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill., ONTARIO, Calif. and PETERBOROUGH, N.H., Oct. 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Classroom teachers are struggling to fit everything into their math block that they need, all while hitting content requirements set by the standards. Math expert Kristin Hilty's upcoming seminar, Guided Math: An Instructional Framework to Build Conceptual Understanding in All Students, from Staff Development for Educators (SDE), offers teachers a new way to build math time into their day and meet the diverse needs of their students.

In two days, Hilty introduces a guided math instructional framework that can be used to reach all students through morning warm-ups, whole-class instruction, flexible grouping, individual conferencing, and ongoing assessment. In addition, she demonstrates how this framework will provide them the freedom to help students who struggle the most while providing the rigor advanced learners need.

"Teachers are pulled in a hundred different directions and often wonder: How do I fit it all in? Hilty addresses their frustration head on by providing tips, tweaks, and tactics that will make it easy to maximize math learning time," Kymra Kurinskas, SDE program developer, says.

Hilty knows what quality math instruction looks like and how to deliver it. For 17 years, she has taught special education students and elementary grades 2–5 and led her district in the implementation of current math standards. The insight she offers is up-to-date, grounded in the real world, and easy to implement.

She begins by navigating attendees through the set-up of a numeracy-rich environment, the use of language in a math classroom, and strategies for guided math with whole group. The second day features tips for guided math groups, math warm-up activities, math facts, and centers and games. Throughout the seminar, participants will play innovative, standards-based games and create their own math journals as they experience first-hand how to bring this valuable framework to life in their classrooms.

Guided Math: An Instructional Framework to Build Conceptual Understanding in All Students will be offered in Elk Grove Village, IL on November 14–15, 2016 and Ontario, CA on December 1–2, 2016. Registrants will receive a FREE best-selling book, Time's Up on Timed Tests: How to Teach for Understanding Rather than Test for Speed, by Kristin Hilty.
