MedAptus Extends Cardiology Presence for Charge Capture, Electronic Prescribing

Integrated Applications Anchor Virginia Cardiovascular Specialists' Mobile Computing Strategy

BOSTON, Sept. 23, 2008 — MedAptus(R), market leader for charge capture technologies, today announced that its Practice Plus Edition was recently selected by Virginia Cardiovascular Specialists (VCS), the premier cardiovascular practice in the central Virginia region. In addition to choosing MedAptus' Professional Intelligent Charge Capture after performing extensive vendor and system reviews, the group also chose to deploy Electronic Prescribing.

With functionality designed for physicians, mid-level extenders, residents and billing professionals, Practice Plus Edition is a powerful yet easy-to-use electronic charge capture system proven to mitigate revenue loss, compliance overhead and lack of billing process transparency. The technology is used by clinicians in every practice setting, from single-specialty groups to large academic practice plans.

Electronic Prescribing, proven to improve the accuracy and efficiency of the medical prescription process, saves time and prevents errors. The ability to electronically transmit prescriptions expedites renewal and pick-up processes while access to drug information and formularies reduces potential payment issues and more critically, patient adverse events.

By adopting MedAptus, the 38 cardiologists at VCS who see patients at nine offices and hospitals throughout central Virginia will realize greater productivity resulting from a single sign-on and streamlined patient tasks. The co-adoption of Electronic Prescribing will also enable VCS to participate in the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA), recently enacted by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

"Improving the quality of patient care while simultaneously enhancing physician efficiency is essential to the long-term survival of any private practice.  While investing in this mobile initiative enables our physicians to capitalize on available incentives, the more important aspect is its alignment with increased patient safety, a key objective at VCS," said Ann E. Honeycutt, Executive Director, Virginia Cardiovascular Specialists. "We selected MedAptus as vendor of choice based on our findings that the company provided both powerful technology and a strong customer orientation."

"MedAptus is thrilled to serve as the platform for Virginia Cardiovascular's mobile computing initiative, especially given the thorough nature of the group's due diligence around vendor selection. The implementation of Practice Plus in concert with Electronic Prescribing will yield tremendous benefits, including improvements to the bottom line as well as the overall patient experience," said Scott Seero, Vice President of Sales, MedAptus.

Beyond VCS, MedAptus counts numerous other savvy cardiology practices amongst its expanding customer base. Cardiology is an especially prime specialty for the adoption of charge capture technology given high patient volumes, complex coding scenarios, and the involvement of diverse care settings.
