MedAptus' Facility Charge Capture and Infusion Services Module Purchased by M. D. Anderson Cancer Center

Coding and Billing Automation Extended to Ease Administrative Burden on Nurses, Provide Enhanced Reconciliation

BOSTON, March 26, 2008 — MedAptus(R), the leading provider of point-of-care charge capture technologies, today announced that its customer, The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, is implementing the company's Facility Charge Capture and Infusion Services Module solutions.

MedAptus' Facility Charge Capture supports comprehensive management of technical charges from collaborative capture at the point-of-care, to reconciliation, coding and compliance tasks in the back office. Using the Infusion Services Module, which is an add-on component of Facility Charge Capture, nurses enter infusion services delivered and the system translates the input into compliant codes. By eliminating coding and related administrative overhead, the Module allows nurses to spend less time on paperwork and more time with patients.

M. D. Anderson has used MedAptus' Professional Charge Capture technology since 2005. There are currently more than 500 physicians and mid-level providers at the institution using the tool to capture and submit professional charge data. A study undertaken by M. D. Anderson indicated that adoption of Professional Charge Capture has resulted in a $7 million improvement across the M. D. Anderson enterprise.

The organization is initially rolling out the desktop-based technologies to a total of eight infusion centers, which include over 100 nurses that deliver approximately 200 infusions daily. While the new solutions also include dashboard reconciliation functionality created to streamline charge review, approval and transmission processes, M. D. Anderson will additionally benefit from MedAptus' Cross Reconciliation Engine. The Engine drives further revenue improvements through data analysis of entered charges, facility and professional, to identify any potentially overlooked opportunities.

"As the regulations governing billing for infusion services are complex and change annually, achieving full reimbursement for services rendered and materials utilized is extremely challenging in a paper-based billing environment," said Lori English, associate director of patient business services at M. D. Anderson. "We are very excited to deploy the MedAptus solutions because our experience says that automation is key to efficient, accurate and complete charge capture processes. With enhanced reconciliation ability, we will have tremendous control that ensures no services or procedures are missed, and that a patient's entire visit is coded compliantly."

M. D. Anderson expects to have the Infusion Services Module fully live by summer 2008. Upon completion of the implementation, M. D. Anderson will turn its attention to deploying Facility Charge Capture to more than 25 departments that deliver outpatient services.

"Given M. D. Anderson's success in achieving enterprise-wide adoption of Professional Charge Capture with highly demonstrable results, deployment of Facility Charge Capture in concert with the Infusion Services Module will leverage and extend these gains in ambulatory services areas enterprise-wide. Also of utmost importance is that these technologies will greatly diminish time-consuming administrative overhead for busy clinical staff," said David Delaney, MD, chief medical officer of MedAptus. "We are very proud to have our solutions deployed in three NCI-designated cancer centers and look forward to working with other institutions interested in eliminating paper and potential revenue leaks from their infusion billing workflow," added Dr. Delaney.
