LOS ANGELES, Jan. 20, 2011 — Mikawaya USA has announced the winner of its 3-month "New Flavor Contest" today, and the winner is … PUMPKIN SPICE!
Mikawaya Mochi enlisted the help of fans online via its website and Facebook fan page, and the response was overwhelming. "We are very pleased to announced that the fans of Mikawaya Mochi have chosen Pumpkin Spice as our newest flavor, and with so many people voting, we are very excited to share this new flavor," third-generation owner Frances Hashimoto said. The winning flavor, which will be available for a limited time during the fourth quarter of 2011 in select retail locations, was the highest vote-getter with Peppermint and Gingerbread coming in second and third, respectively.
Mochi Ice Cream is a unique, Japanese-inspired novelty with rich, creamy ice cream wrapped in sweet, rice dough. Mochi Ice Cream is available in a 2-pack or 6-pack and there are currently seven flavor choices, plus the new limited-edition Pumpkin Spice flavor. Current flavors include the more traditional chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and Kona coffee, but also venture into more Asian-influenced flavors such as mango, green tea and red bean (not available in the 2-pack). Each serving of Mochi Ice Cream is 100 calories, except for vanilla, which comes in at 90 calories.
