MindConnex Brings In-App Purchase, Universal iOS Support to Shakespeare In Bits

DUBLIN, March 27, 2012 — MindConnex Learning has launched a new universal version of its popular Shakespeare In Bits series. Available on the iTunes App Store, the free download makes it simpler to purchase and manage Shakespeare In Bits titles across all iOS platforms.

Shakespeare In Bits is a multimedia approach to tackling the works of the Bard aimed at middle and high school teachers and students, providing a more engaging and interactive experience with Shakespeare.

The new universal Shakespeare In Bits app features an in-app store through which all plays within the Shakespeare In Bits series can be downloaded, providing a single purchase platform for multiple devices such as iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. This means that each play purchased can be downloaded and re-downloaded on any iOS device linked to the same iTunes account.

While this new unified Shakespeare In Bits app will replace the existing paid and freemium iPad and iPhone apps, the company has maintained its standalone iPad version of the plays on the App Store to allow educational institutions to continue to avail of the Volume Purchase Program discount (which can cut the price of the apps by up to 50% when purchasing over 20 units).

According to Michael Cordner, CEO of MindConnex Learning, "With over 40,000 people using Shakespeare In Bits across all platforms and 50,000 downloads of the iOS apps alone, this new unified platform enables us to deliver even more benefits to our customers. It makes the purchasing and downloading process more straightforward, while also providing greater value for money for teachers and students by enabling them to download the same purchased content on different iOS devices linked to the same iTunes account."

The new unified app comes with a try-before-you-buy option, providing a sample scene from both Hamlet and Romeo & Juliet (the iconic balcony scene), featuring:

  • High quality animation presented side-by-side with original unabridged text
  • Professional audio
  • Integrated notes and in-line translation of select words / phrases into contemporary language
  • A sample cast biography and illustrated relationship character map
  • A sample of the plot summary
  • The ability to take notes (iPad only)

MindConnex Learning now counts four plays in its Shakespeare In Bits series — Romeo & Juliet, Macbeth, Hamlet and A Midsummer Night's Dream — and is due to launch its fifth title, Julius Caesar, in May 2012. Shakespeare In Bits is also available on PC/Mac and online through a school subscription.
