Silver is a highly sought-after professional development speaker known for her optimistic and humorous style. She is an award-winning educator with 30 years of experience as a classroom teacher, staff development instructor, and university professor. Silver's numerous recognitions include being named the Louisiana State Teacher of the Year. Her bestselling book, Drumming to the Beat of Different Marchers: Finding the Rhythm for Differentiated Learning, has been recognized for its insights into research-based models, teaching strategies, management tips, and inspirational "from-the-heart" lessons for addressing individual differences.

"My mission is to remind teachers of how important they are in the lives of children, highlighting both learning theory as well as tools for communication," says Silver. "I firmly believe that teachers need to be having fun, and staying in touch with their passion, to make their biggest impact in the classroom."

Also presenting at the event is popular first grade expert Reagan Tunstall, a 17-year primary grade teacher. Tunstall is a 2009-2010 Teacher of the Year and is passionate about providing students with both engaging and effective standards-based lessons. In addition to national trainings, she also shares effective teaching techniques in a hands-on format with her home campus and with her district as a Teacher Leader.

Also joining Silver and Tunstall at I Teach 1st! is popular presenter, author, and educator, Janiel Wagstaff. Wagstaff is a national literacy consultant and full-time K-6 English Language Arts Coordinator/Literacy Coach for her school district. She's been an educator for 26 years and has written eight books on literacy instruction, including the "Stella Writes" series of picture books for children that introduce opinion, informative, narrative and poetry writing from the perspective of a precocious second grader.

I Teach 1st! is the largest first grade conference of its kind, and was developed and programmed by a team of experts addressing the latest research and developing trends. Attendees' days will consist of multiple breakout sessions, networking events and opportunities, a lively exhibit hall, and "add-on" events, including a Morning Mindfulness kickoff, an educator Meet & Greet, a bonus Sketch Noting session, afternoon storytelling session with Story Pirates, a camaraderie booth, and innovative take-away tips. New and experienced teachers will master both the basics every classroom educator needs and the groundbreaking ideas that lead to true transformation. The conference aims to provide teachers with the precise tools needed to foster student independence, recognize and identify gaps in learning, and build upon the components of literacy and numeracy students attained in Kindergarten.

The I Teach 1st! conference is one of eight national conferences that SDE hosts each summer, divided between Las Vegas, Chicago, and Orlando.
